Seaweed Casserole boss guide: beating all five bosses, lap after lap
Seaweed Casserole looks like a game about punching, but the numbers say it’s a game about throwing. This guide covers how much damage each attack does, every boss’s health on the first and second laps, and what each ingredient will do to Dick’s shell.
PUNCH OR THROW?
| Attack | Damage to an ingredient | Damage to a boss |
|---|---|---|
| Claw punch | 2 | 2 |
| Claw punch, in a piri-piri rage | 3 | 3 |
| Thrown ingredient | 3 (and the thrown one takes 3 too) | 5, plus 60 points |
| Thrown ingredient into the open Pressure Pot | 15 |
A throw does two and a half times the damage of a punch against a boss. Bosses keep sending ingredients at you, so you never run out of ammunition. Grab, turn, throw is the whole strategy.
Grip runs down while you hold something, and you’ll drop it after a few seconds. In a pepper rage your grip lasts twice as long.
THE INGREDIENTS
| Ingredient | Hits to beat (lap 1, stage 1) | Hits you for | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seaweed | 3 | 8 | Slow |
| Prawn | 2 | 6 | Quick |
| Onion | 2 | 7 | Quick |
| Saucepan | 3 | 10 | Quickest |
| Stockpot | 5 | 12 | Slowest |
Dick’s shell holds 100. From the second stage on, every ingredient has an extra point of health, and it gains another every two stages after that, so on later stages and laps they take more punches than the table shows.
Saucepans join from the second stage and stockpots from the third. The Docks are the heaviest stage, with two of each in the mix. A coconut gives back 35 shell, about three stockpot hits’ worth.
THE BOSSES
A boss’s health depends on the stage and the lap. Bosses on the second lap have half as much health again as on the first, plus a bonus that grows each stage.
| Stage | Boss | Health, lap 1 | Health, lap 2 | Throws to beat it, lap 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Copacabana Beach | The Stockpot Brute | 51 | 99 | 11 |
| 2. Lapa Promenade | Senhor Prawn | 68 | 122 | 14 |
| 3. The Night Market | The Onion Baron | 85 | 145 | 17 |
| 4. The Rio Docks | The Pressure Pot | 64 | 111 | 5 (while open) |
| 5. The Kitchen | The Seaweed Casserole | 135 | 215 | 27 |
THE STOCKPOT BRUTE
When he shudders, he’s about to charge straight along your line. Step up or down the beach and he goes past. Then grab one of the ingredients he brings and throw it into his back.
SENHOR PRAWN
He leaps right over you to land behind, so corners stop being safe. Keep to the middle of the beach and turn when he jumps. He’s fast, so keep something in your claws and throw as soon as he’s back on your line.
THE ONION BARON
He fights from the back of the screen and lobs onions, while his court keeps arriving. Clear the small fry first, because each one you beat is one less thing boxing you in, and throw the onions back. Don’t stand in his gas: it’s a cloud, and it keeps costing you shell for as long as you’re in it.
THE PRESSURE POT
Its health is low, but it’s sealed. Punches and throws just CLANG off it, and the health bar shows SHUT. When the valve blows, the bar shows OPEN for 90 frames, just under two seconds, and everything does triple damage. A thrown ingredient does 15, so five well-timed throws finish it. Have an ingredient in your claws and be on its line when it vents. Don’t waste grip waiting too early, either.
THE SEAWEED CASSEROLE
The biggest boss by far. It stalks, spits and slams. Below a quarter of its health it gets angry: it spits five ways instead of three and slams far more often. Do most of your damage early, while it’s calmer, then keep moving and throw whenever you have something in your claws.
PICKUPS AND SCORING
- Coconut: 35 shell back.
- Maraca: 500 points.
- Piri-piri pepper: about eight seconds of rage. Punches do 3 instead of 2, come out faster, and your grip lasts twice as long.
- Combos: kills close together multiply. Each kill is worth its points times the current combo.
- Direct hits: each throw that hits a boss is worth 60 points. A punch on a boss is worth 15.
- Lives: you start with three. Each boss you beat gives you a full shell and an extra life, up to five.
Beat the Casserole and you go back to Copacabana on lap two with your score kept. Everything is tougher, but nothing about the strategy changes. Keep throwing.
